Leave your name and email and we will send one message when the course is live — nothing else. If you are enrolling a whole school or team, tell us how many teachers and we will reach out directly.
The course targets new educators, ensuring they are highly trained in Structured Literacy best practices, have deep knowledge of cognitive reading science, and can provide high-quality, effective literacy instruction that promotes students’ word recognition and language comprehension.
Equip new teachers with the knowledge and skills to implement research-based best practices aligned with the Science of Reading, so every student has access to strong Tier 1 literacy instruction.
By the end of the course you will have deepened your knowledge of cognitive science and Structured Literacy practices, and increased your ability to effectively plan, assess, and facilitate high-quality Tier 1 literacy instruction in your classroom.
Know the findings that shape instruction — the Simple View of Reading, Scarborough’s Rope, the Active View of Reading — and connect emergent to later literacy skills.
Understand the building blocks of word recognition and language comprehension that support long-term literacy growth.
Teach skills in the right order, so students progress systematically from the first sounds to fluent, meaningful reading.
Leave each module with activities that promote reading skills among young learners of every ability level, including multilingual learners.
Complete each module in full — including its activities — and you move on to the next. Time estimates are posted on every module overview page.
Every module opens with its objectives, required activities, an estimate of time to complete, and a downloadable participant guide for note-taking. Each one connects the content to classroom application and includes special considerations for diverse and multilingual learners.
Chapters pair an introduction and activity with a classroom application. Along the way you will find reflection prompts, videos, clickable graphics, and short checks for understanding — multiple-choice quizzes of three to five questions, passed at 80% or higher.
Finish the course and download your Certificate of Completion from Educational Solutions for Children, Inc. Content support comes from our literacy team, and technical help is a message away.
The Language Comprehension pathway below shows the depth of each module. The full Structured Literacy course builds on this pathway, and the complete module list will be posted here when enrollment opens.
Purpose, mission, and goals of the course, plus a snapshot of the learning experience — modules, chapters, reflections, and checks for understanding.
Six chapters — the Science of Reading, the Simple View of Reading, Scarborough’s Rope, the Active View of Reading, the RAND Model, and metacognitive strategies in reading — with a pre-test and post-test.
Six chapters on the strands that turn decoders into readers who understand: building language comprehension, background knowledge, vocabulary, language structures, verbal reasoning, and literacy knowledge.
Five chapters on using assessment well — data-driven literacy instruction, data collection, data analysis, interpreting data, and planning and implementing instruction that builds on each student’s strengths.
A short completion survey and your downloadable Certificate of Completion.
The same evidence-based practices the course teaches are already free on our two literacy portals — guides, skill videos, printables, and family activities.
